one month in...
I started a new job a month ago and I promised y'all I'd keep you updated.
there’s so much you know and so much you don’t know - finding the balance is wild.
When I was deciding where I wanted my next adventure to be, I had three non-negotiables: creative freedom, real investment in organic social & a diverse team. Without all three, a brand would struggle to break through and I wasn’t about to join one that couldn’t deliver. Good thing DoorDash can.
I chose carefully, knowing the right systems can be a launchpad for success or a major roadblock.
If I hear AI one more time I swear…
Somehow AI has become a more triggering word than your ex’s name. It’s not about the tech itself. I believe it will speed up our systems and the work we don’t want to do.But in the world of marketing, we’re dealing with customer perception and let’s face it, AI doesn’t have the best PR.
So I’m curious: how are you adapting to the new technology while keeping brand perception and trust front of mind? Typeform is collecting survey responses for their next “Get Real” report which is allll about AI in marketing. What are we actually feeling as marketers? What can we do to balance the different forces that be? Take the survey here to let out all your feels: https://shorturl.at/JkV #TypeFormPartner
In shaping my career narrative, I wanted every step to be intentional and the “why” unmistakable.
STEP 1: Duolingo was about starting from ground zero. If you have limited resources, a limited team, what do you lean on and create?
STEP 2: At DoorDash, the challenge was clear. Redirect and reimagine a well known brand to thrive in a social-first world. What does it take to enter that new era?
STEP 3: idk I’m barely in step 2. ask me in 5 years.
I don’t think my brain has ever made as many new neural pathways as it has in this past month. From understanding acronyms, to discovering the ins and outs of a three way marketplace…every day feels like a sprint and a marathon. I’ve heard it gets easier and I’m hopeful it will. (and shout out to everyone checking in on me!)
The team has been able to do some really cool things that I’ve always wanted to witness/create like having social influence product & working with talent in a genuinely social-first way.
With all the hype around The Summer I Turned Pretty, the team had the idea to place this in the app and amplify it on social. So when you order and want to add some items from another store (aka DoubleDash), you can choose what team you’d like to join…no bias obvs!
I’ve rarely - if ever - seen product be willing to work with social to move at the speed of culture. It took some kinks and tweaks, but it truly did provide value (and smiles!) for the customer.
DoorDash teamed up with Cardi B to celebrate her new album “Am I The Drama?,” dropping Friday, with the launch of The Cardi Bodega, a virtual shop stocked with her favorite snacks, drinks and signed CDs and vinyl.
While I joined the absolute tail-end of this, it was amazing to see the team bring about a full cycle campaign that really focused on a full cycle: product, social and an in-person activation.
Fans ordered the drop directly through DoorDash and instantly got it delivered. Ahead of the release, DoorDash brand ambassadors biked through New York neighborhoods from Sept. 16–18, blasting snippets of unreleased tracks and brought a taste of the drama to the streets before it officially arrived.
So, yeah, it’s been a month (that somehow also feels like a year?). And I really love my team. And all the projects we have cooking up. I feel fulfilled, excited and doing work that I never thought I’d be able to touch.
Thank you for all the wellness checks, encouraging texts and kind words. Onward.

It's really nice to see you, despite all that you've accomplished at Duo, become a "beginner" again. The transparency is great for any person considering a pivot.
Reading your work makes me feel like I am reading directly from your mind. That is a rare skill! Thank you for always sharing your true thoughts on things. I always look forward to your newsletters.
